081009 Tip of Week

I’m busy writing another book. It’s hard work. Not physically difficult, but mentally challenging instead.

Exhausting, to be honest.

I feel Winston Churchill said it best: “Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.

I’m in the master/tyrant stage right now, and it’s quite a battle with the beast. In the end, I hope to prevail.

So. here’s the key advice: Stay focused and never waiver. Keep your eyes on the prize with whatever creative project that’s consuming you today. No matter how bleak it may seem, you are in control. It will get finished. And your work will be good.
