What about 3D sound?
There’s no doubt that 3D filmmaking was everywhere at NAB 2010. You couldn’t go ten feet without bumping into a booth without some kind of emphasis on 3D. From keynote to press releases, it was the real buzz this year.
Of course, the audio side of 3D filmmaking gets the short stick. But not really. We’ve had 3D audio for quite some time.
It’s called Surround Sound.
And what’s great about surround sound is how you can envelope the audience in the experience and make a greater impact on how they respond to the narrative message.
And the audience doesn’t have to wear silly glasses to get the full experience. 5.1 speakers, positioned correctly playing back a carefully constructed surround sound mix is all that’s required.
So move over 3D filmmakers. Don’t forget about your soundtrack and how surround sound can really enhance what you are trying to do visually.
Don’t you think that’s worth it?
