A Sound Life Manifesto
So, as I sat down to contemplate my journey, I pondered the fundamental ideas that have shaped my career. You may call this A Sound Life Manifesto because it does showcase the whys and wherefores of how to build and sustain a career in audio and music that can help bring you closer to the success you need, want, and deserve.
But first you have to define what success means to you. There are a couple of questions that you need to ask – AND answer – before you can move forward.
- 1) What do you want from your life?
- 2) What audio/music skills or ideas do you possess that can help you to get what you want from your life?
Let me share a few simple ideas. Call it Fisher’s Filosophy (sorry):
- Do what you want to do and love to do in your own way.
- Achieve success in your own way and on your own terms.
- Don’t equate your vision of success with another’s view of success. What’s good for someone else may not be right for you. Only you can define your own success terms, and then work toward meeting them.
- And never live your life in a way that you think/feel others think/feel you should live it, either.
These are the fundamental rules that really need to govern your life. And these are not easy decisions to make either. I’ve struggled with finding the right answers for years, and continue to struggle in ways that push me forward toward ideas and goals that I want to achieve.
It’s not easy to live a sound life, but for me it was something I had to do. And I continue to do it today. And every day.
There is sacrifice at every stage and plenty of distractions to interfere with your progress. It’s easy to be discouraged by all the barriers that seems to conspire to impede your journey. And it’s easy to complain about your lack of growth (and even easier to give up and take a different route). But staying steadfast along the path is a crucial emotional skill that you must cultivate, develop, and employ.
More to come … (and your comments on the thoughts so far are welcome below)
