A room of my own

Posted on Jun 21 2011

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! These posts will give you a better idea about what this site is about. Start here, then go here, and here, and then here.I get asked by people if they can see my studio. I always counter with this: “Have you seen a computer in a room?” If they answer yes, then, well, they know what my project studio looks...

Are you sure?

I’m always on a mission to explore the world of sound. I’ve been at it for a number of years, and it would be oh-so-easy to rest on my laurels and take a business-as-usual tactic. Instead I continue to search for new methods, better techniques, and more useful tools (and that includes software). I’m not one who falls for the false consensus effect. It’s why I don’t use...

Sound is … a drug

Here’s a look at the final cover for my latest book, Soundtrack Success – A Digital Storyteller’s Guide to Audio Post-Production. Huge special thanks to pal, Christopher Bodel, for the design! Four is my favorite number (read here for why). And like what happens when you buy a new car, and you start seeing it everywhere, I always see four all around me (even when and where I never noticed it before). Generally, it’s safe to say, I see the number 4 in a lot of my life. Four instance (see?), the coolest page in a new book I’m reading is 44 (double 4 goodness!). I have four fingers...

Learn a new chord

Posted on May 25 2011

Paul McCartney (yes that PM) tells a story about the time soon after he and John Lennon first met when they’d heard about a bloke who knew how to play the B7 chord on the guitar. According to Sir Paul, the two ingénue musicians jumped on a bus and took the journey together to learn the proper fingering for playing that chord. They were so hungry to expand their musical knowledge, and so lacking...

Find your ideal diet

Posted on May 25 2011

I set a goal for myself to lose weight. Since January 3 when I began, I’ve lost 32 pounds as of May 23, over 15% total weight loss. Originally, I set out to lose 20lbs, and it was going so well, I just kept going. I’m more in a maintenance mode right now, not really trying to lose more, though I might try to drop five more and hit a weight I haven’t been for 20+ years. Pros: Feel...
